First Visions (Second Sight #1)

Two years ago, 21-year-old Kate Edwards became deathly ill and slipped into a coma. While unconscious, she crept into the mind of a missing boy and awoke with the knowledge of his location. Friends and family were skeptical and wary of her new ability to see into the minds of others. Their fears prompted Kate to keep her psychic powers a secret. Feeling alienated, she dropped out of college and spent most of her days holed up at her mother’s home.
Now another child has been abducted. Police detective Jared Corbett seeks out Kate for her help in solving the case. Reluctantly, Kate agrees and they must work together to bring 8-year-old Cori Preston home to her family. Although attracted to one another, Jared has a girlfriend with ties to the abduction case and Kate is sarcastic and guarded since her coma. With visions she can’t control and an uncontrollable attraction to the detective, she wonders if she can leave the past behind and finally stop hiding from the world. Otherwise, Cori may be lost forever.
I recieved an eBook copy of this book for an honest review.
First Visions was only 110 pages in PDF format, so it didn’t take me too long to read it. I thought it was a nice length for this particular story. Not too long.
The cover is gorgeous! Simple, but eye catching at the same time.
I instantly connected with Kate and felt her need to help Cori, the girl who had been abducted, and also her love for Jared, even though she couldn’t have him because he was spoken for. Also, her relationship with her mother was really sweet, how they stuck together when Kate’s father left, how they generally looked after each other.
Kate’s visions are kind of hard to explain. She can jump into another person’s memories if she has enough connection with them. She saw her mother and father talking, she saw her best friend Julie, Jared when he was younger…that’s how she helped to find Matt Spencer, the first person she had a vision of.
Jared was a cool guy. I liked him from the beginning. He didn’t give into his feelings for Kate, (at the beginning!!!) because he was already dating Nicki. (We’ll talk about her in a second.) He was a detective, and about seven years older than her (not that it matters!) and soooo charming! I’ve fallen for him already, let alone Kate!
Nicki, Jared’s girlfriend, was a bitch. She was so possessive of Jared and it was like, ‘Get your claws outta him and let Kate get the prince!’ She even told the newspapers about Kate being physic even though she didn’t want her talents to be public. Grrr! But that’s good! You have to have at least one infuriating character in a novel, it got a reaction from me J
I loved Heathers writing, it flowed so naturally and made me want to read more. I would, like, pay money to read the next book in the series. Literally cannot wait! The only thing that kept me from rating First Visions as a five star book was the instant love between Kate and Jared. Yes, I loved them together, but it did happen a little too fast. Even Kate admits that in the book that she fell in love with him so fast.
Never mind though! Because book two looks awesome! As does book three! Can’t wait to read!
