Rocked: A Chelsie Valdar Saga, 1

By Gina Marie Long

Jessie puts a finger to her lips, indicating ‘quiet’. Three seconds pass.

She says, “Alex was right outside your window. He’s across the street now. I’m sorry I didn’t notice before. We were deep in research and my mind focused on learning things. Talking about the sword made my senses intensify. That’s when I knew he was here.”

I think I could officially call Alex a stalker. I bet when he left earlier, he parked a street over and walked back. With his telepathy and heightened hearing, he most likely heard everything or read our minds about all the secret, important information discussed tonight. Bad, bad, bad.

I open the old, wooden trunk sitting at the foot of my bed and reach for my favorite dagger. I’d like to take my personal sword, the one I use in practice with Bo, but I worry someone outside will see me with it. I can conceal the dagger against my arm. Jessie’s jaw drops open and she shakes her head.

I walk through the house, alert Dad and Ash to Alex’s presence, and stroll out the front door. Jessie sneaks off behind a bush, which concerns me, and Dad and Ash follow quickly with their own choice of weapon and stand by my side. Although it’s dark and difficult to see clearly, we prefer not to cause a scene and have neighbors witness or hear anything unusual.

I see Alex across the street on the sidewalk, leaning against a tree. I speak in a normal tone, knowing his super hearing will catch my words. “Go home, Alex. No one knows anything yet. We are trying to take care of ourselves. You need to make your own plans.”

Just barely loud enough to hear, he replies, “Oh, sweet Chelsie, I am making my own plans.”

Alex makes no effort to move. I expose the concealed dagger to Alex, trying to convince him I’m serious. In his human form, he is more susceptible to injury. My dagger should pierce his skin. But it will bounce off him if he shifts into a Bigfoot.

Before the standoff goes any further, a cougar sprints across the street, heading precisely at Alex. It’s Jessie, of course. Her cougar can easily kill him as a human and if he shifts to a Bigfoot, her werecat teeth can rip him to shreds. A werecat is capable of killing a Bigfoot with her bite.

The look on Alex’s face is priceless. He assumed Jessie would never transform into a cougar, since she revealed a housecat is her preferred choice. He runs through a yard at breakneck speed to escape. Jessie skids to a stop and doesn’t pursue him. She stares in the direction he ran for another few seconds then turns to face us as a cougar.

I look for any approaching vehicles or any nosy neighbors. Nothing. I call to her, “Jessie, please come here as you are. Hurry.”

She gallops towards us. Fear is the first emotion. A large wildcat is charging at me. I remind myself this is Jessie and relax, touched by her beauty and power. She sits on her haunches and swishes her tail. I reach to scratch behind her ears and immediately Dad and Ash do the same. Her loud purring is almost comical. We have little time to play and gawk at her cougar shape, though. We’re on the front lawn and anyone could see us. She pads off behind the bushes to shift and dress.

She pops out and proudly says, “How was I? Did you like that?”

Dad warns, “A cougar running through the neighborhood might draw attention. Under the circumstances, I’ll let it slide. Well done.” He’s impressed and nods his approval.

We return to the house. I call Bo and tell him about my evening, starting with Alex. He’s edgy and fuming over Alex’s behavior, commenting how he wished he could’ve been at my house to help. I fill him in on other things, trying to summarize the best I can, when he gets another call. It’s his girlfriend, Mira, and he says he needs to take the call, and we’ll talk again in the morning.

Well, isn’t that nice.

Gina Marie Long is an author of paranormal thrillers, urban fantasy, and young adult novels. She has written the Unknown Touch-Werewolf Series and Rocked – A Chelsie Valdar Saga.
Gina’s fiction stories are inspired from her interest in the supernatural, science fiction and fantasy world. She enjoys reading, watching evening TV shows, movies and listening to music. Writing indulges her passion for the entertainment arts, giving her active mind a playground of possibilities to explore. She stays active on social media sites and blogging, making connections with others who share the same interests.

She writes about werewolves, vampires, witches, werecats, Bigfoot, an occasional demon, psychics, Vikings, and riveting human characters. But not ALL in the same book! In addition, a light romance is included to spice things up (come on-every book, movie and TV show has some sort of a love story in it). The books do not fall under the romance category…just enough in the storyline to satisfy the girls. And the boys can breathe easy with the knowledge that they’re not reading a romance novel but a paranormal thriller, instead. Depending on which series, the ages of the main characters are 16 through 30. Most are on the younger side.

“It’s exciting to create strong characters that the readers fall in love with…or want to strangle! Writing books about other beings, such as werewolves and vampires, allows rules to be broken concerning life and the world as we know it. The idea to have these supernatural species living and breathing among us is so wickedly intriguing. Having close contact with them, developing relationships, and dealing with the good vs. the evil – it sweeps you away into another reality – an escape from real life. You wonder and worry about what the characters will stumble upon next. Or, what horrific tragedy knocks them flat on their faces.”~~Gina
She lives in Highland, Illinois, with her husband and Jessie Cat.
